Mother’s food during pregnancy and lactation effects Children

This study was aimed at examining the influence of a maternal junk food diet in pregnancy and lactation on circulating glucose, insulin, triglyceride and cholesterol as well as the associated cellular and molecular adaptations in the perirenal fat pads of the offspring at the end of adolescence (10 weeks postpartum). The perirenal fat pad was chosen because it is a major visceral fat pad present in both male and female rats which is involved in the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (Gabriely et al. 2002) and therefore plays a role in regulating whole-body glucose homeostasis.
